Jay Hall hails from the Great Lakes region of the Midwest. After a brief stint in New England following college, he headed west and settled in Phoenix, Arizona, where he has been involved in the art community for many years. He is currently focused on his own work at the Suncrest Building, a creative cooperative that is home to artists, tinkerers, and makers.

Jay has experimented with many media, including monoprinting, painting, photography, papermaking, serigraphy, ceramics, and digital art and printing. His influences are fluid and diverse, ranging from his mother to Robert Rauschenberg, John Chamberlain, Anselm Kiefer, Ruth Asawa, Richard Serra, Margaret Kilgallen, Frank Gehry, Wayne Coyne, Frank Stella, William Basinski, and Elvis (both of them).

Jay holds a B.S. in Geology with an emphasis in Art History from Beloit College in Wisconsin. He has participated in numerous exhibitions across the country.

A person frustratedly working, imagining a hammer.

"It's hard to put your finger on only a few people, events, or seemingly unimportant interactions that shape who you become. You get older, experience new things, forget others, and make discoveries that could not have happened without finding an earlier piece of the puzzle.

Creating art is very similar. You’re not chasing a ‘magnum opus' but, in fact, on a journey; individual works are stepping stones to the next with backslides and tangents mixed in. You can count on the creative path not being a straight line. The process, like wisdom, is a series of incomplete, interconnected exercises in which we often learn more from failure than from success."
